Dr. Antonio Penteado Mendonça went with Dr. Paulo Nathanael de Souza in a travel to Portugal, in October 20th and 24th, 2008, where they executed a collaboration protocol between CIEE – Centro de Integração Empresa-Escola [Center of Integration Company-School] and Universidade de Coimbra.

On April 23, Antonio Penteado Mendonça delivered a lecture at a meeting held by the Council on Advanced Studies (CONSEA) from FIESP (Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo), which subject was: The sector streamlining and positive developments in the insurance area.

On April 15, Antonio Penteado Mendonça released a new book entitled “Insurance Themes”, sponsored by Unibanco Seguros.

On April 15, Antonio Penteado Mendonça delivered a lecture at the Centenary of Euclides da Cunha, held at CIEE (Centro de Integração Empresa-Escola) – Center for Company-School Integration.

The III Brazilian Congress on Insurance and Social Security Law, organized by AIDA–BRASIL together with the Magistracy School of the State of Paraná - EMAP, was held on March 20 and 21, 2009, in Curitiba, State of Paraná. On March 20, Antonio Penteado Mendonça delivered a lecture at the 2nd Panel whose theme was "Searching for justice in tariff collection – Car insurance profile. Actuarial technique".

The firm’s human resources policy to form and retain talents was stressed out in an article published in the newspaper “Gazeta Mercantil” on January 12. Such article also tells a little about the history of more than a century of Penteado Mendonça law firm.

On March 4, 2009, the newspaper “Jornal da Tarde” published an article by André Luis Coentro de Almeida entitled “The redress for environmental damages”.

On December 5, Antonio Penteado Mendonça will deliver a lecture on the "Consequences of the global crisis to the national scenario – Trends in the supplementary health care market", at the XVIII SUERJ – UNIMED’s Seminar – Rio’s Federation. The work was made under Drs. Ives Gandra da Silva Martins’ and Francisco Rezek’s coordination. The chapter regarding the Social Security is Dr. Antonio Penteado Mendonça’s authorship.

In 02.10 occurred the launch of the book “Federal Constitution – Advancements, contributions and changes in the Brazilian democratic process”, a commemorative edition of our Constitution-20 years, by Revista dos Tribunais and CEU – Centro de Extensão Universitária Publishing company. The work was made under Drs. Ives Gandra da Silva Martins’ and Francisco Rezek’s coordination. The chapter regarding the Social Security is Dr. Antonio Penteado Mendonça’s authorship.

In the Saturday, in October 04th, at 11 a.m., Dr. Antonio Penteado Mendonça was lecturer in the panel with the subject “Courses of Insurance Broker Profession”, that was performed inside the 13º Conec – Congresso dos Corretores de Seguros [Insurance Brokes Conference] program –, in October 02nd and 04th, in the Palácio de Convenções of Anhembi/SP.

In the panel, that will figure on the participation of Dr. Antonio Penteado Mendonça, will be discussed the Insurance Brokes and Insurance Agents Cooperatives, having as lecturers Mrs. Marcos Possa and Nilton Molina.

This Conference is the most complete in lectures (technicals and motivationals) and expositions of area products.

The expectancy is that 6 million congressmen take part, since Conec consolidated itself as a conference-reference in the national insurances market. Dr. Armando Char was Nani Venâncio’s guest, in her program "A Tarde é Show", in RBTV, in the day of 29/09, talking and answering questions on automobiles insurances, specially directed for woman.

In the last 26/09, in the site Info Money Pessoal, Dr. Antonio Penteado Mendonça explains concerning the life insurance renovation denial for voice from the Insurance Firm.

In 16 and 18/09 occurred the 8th International Symposium of Health Economy, performed by the Centro Paulista de Economia da Saúde [Health Economy “Paulista” (from São Paulo) Center], in Hotel Intercontinental. The talk-show in the day 17, about the theme “Is it necessary (and possible) to give preference in health?”, had as presenter Dr. Elias A. Jorge and as moderator Dr. Antonio Penteado Mendonça.

Dr. Silvânia Vieira talked about the Theme: Justice Decisions on Life Insurance, in an interview to the Monitor Mercantil Digital, in 09/10/08.

The program "A Tarde é Show", of the last 09/09, in RBTV, figured on with the presence of Dr. André L. C. de Almeida, talking on Consumer rights and asking doubts of the telespectator.

In an interview to the newspaper “A Folha de S. Paulo” in the last 02/09, Dr. Armando Char talked on STJ’s decision about life insurance denial to widow of a drunk motorist.

In August 27th, The Associazione Nazionale Veterani and Reduci Garibaldini granted to Dr. Antonio Penteado Mendonça the "Giuseppe Garibaldi’s Birth Bicentenary Medal", because of the traditional lunch of the Academies of São Paulo.

In August 05th was performed one more meeting of the National Ethics and Insurance Group, administered by Dr. Antonio Penteado Mendonça, in the headquarters of AIDA Brasil (International Insurance Rights Association – Brazilian Section).

In July 01st occurred the II National Meeting on Climatic Changes and Civil Defense, promoted by ABEPPOLAR, Escola Politécnica / USP, IPT and IUAPPA, in the building of EPUSP. In this event, the lecture that was entitled “Ambiental Risks and Insurances” was spoken by Dr. Antonio Penteado Mendonça.

Acoplan 5 Years

ACOPLAN performed, in June 05th, in Braston Hotel, the lunch of the 5th birthday for approximately 220 guests. The town councilor Domingos Dissei representing São Paulo’s Town council, Dr. Arlindo de Almeida-president of ABRAMGE, Solange Beatriz P. Mendes of FENASAUDE, the journalist Antonio Penteado Mendonça- O Estado de São Paulo/Radio Eldorado, SENAC, Magazine Apólice, Magazine Cobertura, in addition to Directors and representatives of Partners Securities Firms and Associates Operators were present.

This event honored the Securities Firms, Operators and Personalities that support and take part in ACOPLAN since the beginning in 2003. They received a trophy specially created for the occasion.

An event with good results

The seventh seminary “Ethics and Transparency in Insurance Activity” reached its purposes. During May 20th more than 240 people took part of the 5 panels in which were discussed themes involving the activities grouped as “insurances”.

The level was so interesting that it was not possible to say which of the panels was the most important one. All of them overcame the expectancies, especially by the clear position of each expositor regarding its theme.

Under hierarquical optics, the first panel could be considered the most relevant. After all, took part of it: the Minister Marco Aurélio Mello, of the Federal Supreme Court, that made a short presentation of the designs of the Superior Courts, showing the legal competence of every house in order to make it clear the Federal Superior Court should not judge punctual questions involving personal rights discussion, but with focus in the actuation in its themes discussion field relative to the constitutional matter. The Minister Cesar Asfor Rocha, vice-president of the Federal Superior Court, that, in extremely happy lecture, gave a wide description of motivations, trend and legal tendencies that make STJ judges the infraconstitutional themes in the way it does. And the Chief Judge José Renato Nalini, of the State Appeals Court of São Paulo, that, in a lecture acclaimed by the participants, made a wide description of the advantages of a clear ethical conduct by the companies and the ransom need and of the minimal moral standards adoption by the Brazilian society.

The second panel had as expositors Mr. Murilo Chaim, director of Susep (Superintendence of Private Insurance), Mr. Vandro Ferraz da Cruz, director of IRB Brasil Resseguros S.A., Mr. Osvaldo do Nascimento, vice-president of the National Insurances Firms, Capitalization and Open Private Social Security, and Mr. Dario Guarita Filho, representative in Brazil of the one of the most important international reinsurances securities firms. In a sequence that, if it was combined, it would not be so right, the lectures were interconnected until create a distinctive design of the actual market and of short-term perspectives, essential to make a decision by the sector decision.

In the afternoon the lectures were focused in the themes directly associated to legal safety need for the consistent tools of protection and saving handled by the activity, by the relationship among every activity and the Judiciary Brand and the measures that could be implemented for a better mutual knowledge and the most consonant working of insurances sector.

Having the purpose to minimize the occurrence of conflicts generated by the insurance firm activity, representatives of the activity and of the Judiciary of São Paulo were objective and transparent in their critical suppositions, opening, as rarely is happening, a wide contest o the view that one has about the other, but, specially, emphasizing the mutual unknown.

With objective lectures concerning the respective themes, the three panels had the following expositors: by the insurance firm activity, Mr. Jayme Garfinkel, president of FENSEG (National Insurance Firms Federation), Mr. Carlos Guerra Barreiros, director of FENAPREVI (National Open Pension Fund Companies Federation), Mrs. Solange Beatriz Palheiro Mendes, executive director of FENASAUDE (National Private Health Companies Federation), and Mr. Helio Portocarreiro, executive director of FENACAP (National Capitalization Companies Federation). By the Judiciary took part the Chief Judge Ligia Bisogni, the Chief Judge Ricardo Torres de Carvalho, the Chief Judge Silvio Marques Neto and the Law Judge Claudio Bueno de Godoy.

7th Seminary “Ethics and Transparency in Insurance Activity”

It’s a pleasure to notify you about the occurrence of the 7th Seminary Ethics and Transparency in Insurance Activity – Solutions to minimize conflicts. This year the event discussed about the market running and its agents’ conduct before the several changes in the legislation and in the operational dynamic of the activity.

Under the coordination of Antonio Penteado Mendonça, representatives of the Judiciary Branch and of the insurance industry will offer analyses on the new solvency rules, ANS determinations for health plans, the reinsurance opening and the changes in the IOF, among other aspects that will influence the market in 2008.

The purpose of the contests is to indicate procedures for insurance firms, brokers and servicers that avoid conflicts in the productive chain, to reduce the intervention need of the Justice and to guarantee the satisfaction and the reliance of the customers.

In May 20th occurred one more Seminary Ethics and Transparency in Insurance Activity. Event coordinated by Dr. Antonio Penteado Mendonça, this 7th edition will approach the subject "Solution to minimize conflicts".

It was published an article entitled "Practical Considerations on the facultative civil responsibility insurance of vehicles", with the Dr. Antonio Penteado Mendonça’s authorship, in Revista do Advogado [Attorney Magazine] of March 2008.

The office recently associated with CESA - Centro de Estudos das Sociedades de Advogados [Attorney Societies Studies Center].

In April 3rd, during the commemorative solemnity of 200 years of the Portuguese Court arrival in Brazil, the Academia Paulista de História [History Academy from São Paulo], the Academia Paulista de Letras [Literature Academy from São Paulo], the Academia Cristã de Letras [Literature Christian Academy], the Academia Paulista de Educação [Education Academy from São Paulo] and the CIEE - Centro de Integração Empresa-Escola granted to Dr. Antonio Penteado Mendonça the Cultural Medal Dom João VI.

In march 4th, the office holder was one of the lecturers in the forum “Climatic Changes – What the insurance industry should and can do?”, performed by FenSeg – Federação Nacional de Seguros Gerais, with the support of Sindsegsp – Sindicato das Seguradoras, Previdência e Capitalização.
